Wellness Wednesday – Nurse Self-Care with Nurse Lauren
Hi there, Nurse Lauren here with your Wellness Wednesday tips! It’s May which means it is Nurses Month, so remember to celebrate the nurses in your life. Wait, you are the nurse in your life? Well this post is for you! The American Nurses Association selected the theme, Nurses Make a Difference to honor the multitude of roles in nursing and how nurses positively impact lives everyday. Check out the Nurses Month’s Weekly Themes including Self Care (May 1 – 7), Recognition (May 8 – 14), Professional Development (May 15 – 21) and Community Engagement (May 22 – 31.)
Week 1 – Self-Care. This is an important one. Let’s chat about what it means to TAKE CARE OF YOU! Yes – YOU! Not a patient, not a family member, not a friend who calls you up for validity with their own self diagnosis. YOU!
- Healthy Eating
- Drink Lots of Water
- Get a Good Night’s Sleep
- Exercise
- Enjoy Non-Work Related Activities
Does this seem like a lot of “practice what you preach?” It is! Taking care of yourself is no different than taking care of your patients. Any advice you would give, you should also take. Check out these great resources which include THE WELL-BEING INITIATIVE, JOIN HNHN’S MAY CHALLENGE!, HONORING THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF-CARE, MOXIE SCRUBS and SEVEN DAYS OF SELF-CARE WITH HEALTHY NURSE, HEALTHY NATION™.
Tomorrow, May 6, is National Nurses Day 2022. Join the ANA on social media Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for talk about the profession and why we celebrate. Use #nursesmonth to show your nurse pride.
This is Nurse Lauren, contributor of NursesNOW, signing off with your Wellness Wednesday tips. We have one of the most important jobs in the world, so it is imperative that we remember to also care for ourselves. Thank you to all my fellow nurses who are currently on the frontline everyday. Happy National Nurses Month!
