HIMSS is closely monitoring the coronavirus outbreak and continues to provide regular updates. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has publicly deemed the health risk of coronavirus for the general American public to be low at this time. The health, safety and well-being of the community is the highest priority. HIMSS20 will be a handshake free meeting.
Roberta’s Thoughts
This will be my 11th year at the annual conference. For the past several years I have been most interested in the state of interoperability in healthcare data. This year will be no different. But this year might be different in there will actually be something to report on. I will be looking for the ONC final data blocking rule to be released and the start of patients having access and control of their health data. This has been over a decade promise and vision of the ONC. I will be looking to see how this will force the issue and changes to privacy laws. I will be looking to see how the EHR vendors will step up and introduce products that embrace API interfaces for patient access. And how the vendors will deliver products that we will trust with our health information. See you in Orlando!
