Happy St. Patrick’s Day! As the saying goes, “If you’re lucky enough to be Irish… you’re lucky enough!” Tis the last day of the work week and we couldn’t resist the opportunity to dedicate this week’s Friday Five to The Emerald Isle and its lovely lads and lasses.
Northwell Health CEO, a Native of Ireland, Leads St. Patrick’s Parade
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City is kind of a big deal and its Board of Directors makes sure to name someone special to be its Grand Marshal. That is precisely why Limerick native Michael J. Dowling, president and chief executive officer of Northwell Health (@NorthwellHealth), was chosen to be Grand Marshal of the 2017 parade. “Michael Dowling is the true embodiment of the values we celebrate on St. Patrick’s Day, a leader in a noble healing profession, an educator, a public servant, an Irish-American who has made enormous contributions to his adopted country and who has made us all proud to be Irish,” said Board Chairman John Lahey. Dowling is believed to be the first head of a hospital to lead the 255-year-old parade. Grab yourself an Irish coffee, do yourself a favor and read Michael J. Dowling’s story as told by Irish Central.

Notre Dame Moves to the Second Round on the Eve of St. Patrick’s Day
Yes, it is St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow but we would be remiss if we neglected to recognize what other time of year it is… March Madness, Baby (as only Dick Vitale can say it). And while we all can agree Villanova will once again prevail this year, in honor of St. Patrick we have chosen to highlight Notre Dame’s (@NDmbb) first round win over Princeton in the NCAA tournament on Thursday afternoon by a final score of 60-58. The Irish have now won three consecutive first round games in the NCAA tournament and seven of their last nine games in the tourney.
