The Friday Five – National Radio Day
Tomorrow, August 20, is National Radio Day. This observance day is a day to recognize and celebrate the invention of the radio. This day of recognition is observed in the United States and acknowledged by radio stations across the country. This week’s Friday Five is dedicated to the history of National Radio Day and our favorite radio station – HealthcareNOW Radio.
National Radio Day
Gugliemo Marconi invented the radio in the 1890s. Lee de Forest transmitted the first public radio broadcast in 1910. The first radio news program was broadcast on August 31, 1920 in Detroit. National Radio Day is celebrated each year on August 20, this day calls for you to promote your favorite station, donate to your local radio station, and pick up a fixer-upper radio for a project.
Celebrate
Promote your favorite station! We all have a favorite radio station. You know, that one that just knows when you need to hear a sad song? That shares your exact political views? That telepathically plays the song you were JUST thinking about? Celebrate your station by giving them a boost on social media with the hashtag #NationalRadioDay. Last year, more than 200,000 tweets with that hashtag were sent out, and organizers are hoping to beat their record!
