The Friday Five – Men’s Health Month
Follow and join the conversation with #MensHealthMonth, #FitFathersDay and #ShowUsYourBlue.
June is Men’s Health Month and the purpose is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. This week’s Friday Five shares what men can do to improve their health, preventative measures they can take and events in which to participate during Men’s Health Month.
Preventive Health Tips for Men
ACCESS Community Health Network (@ACCESSHealth) reports that on average, women live seven years longer than men and, according to Harvard Health, the reason for the gap is because men are less likely to visit a doctor on a regular basis, are more likely to engage in risky behavior, and/or are more likely to drink alcohol or use tobacco. The top causes of health issues for men arise from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, depression and strokes and many of these problems can be prevented through a healthy lifestyle and regular check-ups with a medical provider.
According to @HarvardHealth, men are less likely to visit the doctor, resulting in a shorter life expectancy than women. This month for #MensHealthMonth encourage the men in your life to take these steps to live a healthier life. https://t.co/ZHvZo12g60 pic.twitter.com/1UHEOdWj2Q

Be #VaccineReady and More this Year for Men’s Health Month
Throughout June, Men’s Health Month aims to encourage boys and men to take charge of their overall health by implementing healthy living decisions. This year, as the country has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial that men get regular checkups and be aware of the risks for their age, ethnicity, and lifestyle. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 14.9% of men aged 18 and over are in fair or poor health. During Men’s Health Month, we urge men to take steps to enrich their health and wellness through proper screenings and care.
