By Carmela Couderc, Whitney Weber, & Michael Wittie – December 1st was World AIDS Day, when we collectively remember those who died due to AIDS-related illnesses and renew our commitment to work together to end the HIV epidemic and support people with HIV.
This week’s Friday Five highlights the progress that has been made in the fight against HIV and AIDS, some organizations who are continuing the fight and the latest facts and information about the disease and the strain it puts on the economy of the United States each year.
Started in 1988, World Aids Day was the first ever global health day. Today WAD is observed each year on December 1 and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV, and remember those who have died.
