Reinventing Traditional Venture Capital to Improve Healthcare? You bet!
There are tons of great ideas out there in the medical space but most of them never see the light of day. Whether it is the finances or execution, dreams stay just those, dreams. But one company, Health Digital (HD), is taking a different approach to today’s business and health care market in order to make sure this doesn’t happen. In lieu of providing capital, HD exchanges web development and mentorship to potential digital health partners. By rewriting the rules of how traditional venture capital and venture building companies operate, HD has one simple goal: create a partnership that benefits everyone and helps improve the health care for the better.
“Many physician and health care entrepreneurs have wonderful ideas on how to better serve their patients, yet they lack the capital and technological know how to help make it happen,” explains Dr. Dhaval Bhanusali, co-founder and chief executive officer of New York and Tampa based Health Digital. “That is where we come in. We are able to offer our technological services and guidance so that we can work together to better health care delivery.”
The co-venture approach at Health Digital is the brainchild of Dr. Bhanusali, a highly regarded physician who also has been well versed in the evolution of digital health. He has helped launch numerous digital health companies, previously spent time at the ABC News Medical Unit, and mentors multiple other digital health startups. His passion is in helping hospitals and digital health startups bring these much-needed technology services to the masses.
This mutually beneficial partnership approach has already led to collaborations with the Mount Sinai Health System in New York as well as numerous pre-seed startups around the country. Other hospital systems are also investigating opportunities with the company. The difference between Health Digital and traditional venture capital firms is that instead of investing capital in a company or idea, Health Digital offers “co-ventures,” exchanging software development and mentorship for equity, becoming the CTO in the venture. Health Digital also serves as a venture building option, directly working with hospitals and physicians to create companies based on real-time problems they face.
“Great ideas on how to make health care technology more efficient and helpful for the patient are out there,” added Dr. Bhanusali. “Our system offers a modern day approach to a system that had worked for many years. We help those ideas come to fruition and eliminate the burden of trying to shell out major equity to a technological co-founder or hiring an expensive development firm to get a minimum viable product out there.”
Health Digital was co-founded by Christopher Arnoldi, a serial entrepreneur who specializes in finance, marketing, and business development. Together, the co-founders bring decades of experience in the health care, technology, and business development world to the table. They have worked with companies both domestically and internationally, and have built a reputation for being innovative. With access to hundreds of programmers domestically and internationally, HD is equipped for just about anything.
