American Nurses Association Elects National Leaders
The voting representatives of ANA’s Membership Assembly elected leaders to serve on the board of directors and nominations and elections committee. Voting took place from Friday, June 18th until Thursday, June 24th. All terms of office begin on January 1, 2022. ANA’s Membership Assembly elected the following members to serve two-year terms on the 9-member board of directors: Treasurer Joan Widmer, MS, MSBA, RN, CEN, of the New Hampshire Nurses Association; Director-at-Large Amy McCarthy, MSN, RNC-MNN, NE-BC, of the Texas Nurses Association.
American Association of Colleges of Nursing

Dr. Judith Karshmer Elected to the AACN Board of Directors
Dr. Judith Karshmer, (@JudithKarshmer) dean of the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University, has been elected to the AACN Board of Directors. Dr. Karshmer will serve as a Member-at-Large through March 2022. AACN held a special election to fill an unexpected vacancy on the Board with votes cast by member deans from May 24 through June 10, 2021.

NSNA Raises over $8,000 through Virtual Fitness Challenge
The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc (FNSNA) held its first-ever Scrubs and Sneakers Virtual Fitness Challenge. For nine weeks nursing students, faculty, NSNA/FNSNA staff and other individuals participated in the challenge to continue to celebrate the Year of the Nurse! The challenge also promoted health and wellness within the nursing community and helped to raise funds to support the FNSNA undergraduate scholarship program.

Rural Missouri counties also have highest percentage of nurses over age 54, nearing retirement. “Out of the 114 total counties in Missouri, 97 are designated as health care professional shortage areas, and a majority of these counties are rural. By identifying the specific areas where there is the greatest need for more nurses, we can better tailor our response to help Missouri have a more balanced nursing workforce.” -Anne Heyen, an assistant teaching professor in the MU Sinclair School of Nursing.
