The National Association of ACOs is having their Fall 2022 Conference in Washington, D.C. This year’s agenda is highlighted by CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, who is delivering the Opening Plenary on Thursday, September 8. Administrator Brooks-LaSure will speak about CMS’s goals on advancing value-based care, health equity, and affordability.
Notable other speakers include CMS Innovation Center Director Liz Fowler and Ariadne Labs Executive Director Asaf Bitton. Breakout sessions include timely topics such as those on health equity, ACO REACH, remote patient monitoring, and electronic quality reporting. There will also be an on-the-record town hall with key CMS career staff on Friday, September 9.
The Biden administration has set a goal to have all Medicare beneficiaries in a care relationship with a provider accountable for quality and total cost of care by 2030. There were numerous positive changes for ACOs in the recently proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule to help realize this goal. The NAACOS Fall Conference provides an opportunity to dive into the issues currently facing payment and delivery system reform.
Since 2012, ACOs have saved Medicare $13.3 billion in gross savings and $4.7 billion in net savings. Importantly, data show these ACOs continued to provide high-quality care and yield satisfied patients. Today, ACOs care for nearly 20 percent of all Medicare patients and nearly a third of traditional Medicare patients.
