Friday Five – Sepsis Awareness Month
Follow and join the conversation with #SAM2024, #sepsis, #GetAheadofSepsis and #SepsisAwarenessMonth.
Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to infection that affects 1.7 million people and takes 350,000 adult lives in the U.S. every year. In 2011, Sepsis Alliance designated September as Sepsis Awareness Month. Every September since, they’ve invited individuals, healthcare professionals in every area of medicine, and organizations big and small to help save lives by raising awareness of the leading cause of death in U.S. hospitals – sepsis. This week’s Friday Five offers resources, information, how to get involved and ways to support the cause.
Sepsis Superhero Challenge
The 8th annual Sepsis Superhero Challenge is an opportunity for advocates from around the globe to come together during the entire month of September. Sepsis Awareness Superheroes complete one mile (doing an activity of their choosing) and raise funds for sepsis awareness programs and initiatives. Run, walk, swim, dance, or do any other activity for a mile in September, to raise sepsis awareness and honor those affected by sepsis. However you choose to complete your mile, you will be one of the Sepsis Superheroes the world needs.
#DYK that our Sepsis Superhero Challenge offers tiered prize incentives so participants can earn more items as they surpass each fundraising milestone?

Faces of Sepsis
Faces of Sepsis™ stories allow those affected by sepsis to share their experiences of illness, treatment, recovery, and loss. The collected stories aim to capture the diversity of people who had sepsis—some describe a quick recovery while others cover the long-term effects of post-sepsis syndrome (PSS). Each experience is different, but all Faces of Sepsis stories play a vital role. They help those who have been impacted by sepsis learn that they are not alone. Read this collection of stories or share your own.
Have you thought of sharing your #SepsisSurvivor experience, or the story of a loved one taken by #sepsis?#SepsisAwarenessMonth kicks off soon – submit to our Faces of Sepsis™ collection to help raise awareness of this life-threatening condition: https://t.co/HfKUVRjjMD. pic.twitter.com/IGt9iuTAg5
