Friday Five – National Kidney Month
Follow and join the conversation with #KidneyDisease, #WorldKidneyDay and #NationalKidneyMonth
March is National Kidney Month and our Friday Five seeks to help raise awareness about kidney disease, highlight disparities in chronic kidney disease, and teach readers a little bit about this hard working organ.
What is Kidney Disease?
Did you know that if your kidneys start to struggle, they will automatically work harder? Because of this increased effort, around 90% of people with kidney disease won’t know they have it until it’s advanced.

Help Your Patients Understand the Role and Function of Their Kidneys
Diabetes is a leading cause of kidney disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention External link reports that 1 in 3 adults with diabetes may also have chronic kidney disease. Teaching patients about kidney disease and its relationship to diabetes, and verifying that they understand, are key to getting your patients earlier treatment and improving their health outcomes.

Clinical Trial Diversity
Clinical trials are research studies involving human volunteers to evaluate medical products like medications, vaccines, or devices for safety and effectiveness. Ensuring people from diverse backgrounds join clinical trials is key to advancing health equity. Participants in clinical trials should represent the patients that will use the medical products.
#ClinicalTrials need participants from diverse backgrounds to help explore new treatment options.
