Beryl Institute Selects GetWellNetwork’s Karen Drenkard
GetWellNetwork®, Inc. (@GetWellNetwork), the Precision Engagement™ health care company, announced that its Chief Clinical and Nursing Officer, Karen Drenkard PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, has been selected co-chair of the Beryl Institute Nurse Executive Council (NEC).
Formally launched in late 2017, the NEC, comprised of innovative and visionary nurse executives from healthcare organizations across North America, will work collaboratively with the Beryl Institute to develop strategies for nurse leader engagement in the patient experience movement and will also inform the Institute’s efforts. The Council will host its first in-person meeting during The Beryl Institute Patient Experience Conference, to be held April 16-18 in Chicago.
“I am deeply honored to serve as co-chair alongside Dr. Victoria Niederhauser, Dean and Professor, Knoxville College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee,” said Drenkard. “The chief nurses that will serve on the Nurse Executive Council are outstanding nurse leaders and represent a diverse range of organizations and perspectives and we share a profound commitment to patient experience excellence.”
The former chief nurse of a large health system, Drenkard brings to the NEC her deep nursing executive experience, her research interest in human caring models, and her expertise in the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) program of the QSEN Institute, a national nursing collaborative based at Case Western Reserve University. In her role as Chief Clinical and Nursing Officer at GetWellNetwork, Drenkard leads the implementation of an interactive clinical care model designed to enhance the patient experience in every care setting through clinical best practices and technology solutions. Her nursing perspective adds a key element to GetWellNetwork’s Precision Engagement approach, benefiting patients, clinicians and health care administrators.
Before joining GetWellNetwork, Drenkard was executive director of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and former director of the Magnet Recognition Program®, the internationally recognized benchmark for nursing excellence.
Drenkard received a Ph.D. in nursing administration from George Mason University, a master of science in nursing from Marymount University, and a B.S. in nursing from Russell Sage College. She was a 2003 Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow and a Wharton Nurse Executive Fellow. In addition to her ANCC certification as a Nurse Executive, Advanced (NEA-BC), she is also a Certified Healthcare Quality Professional (CPHQ).
